3rd ID to be honored by legislature

Georgia legislators will celebrate 3rd Infantry Division Day at the Capitol on Monday.
The day is being hosted by Rep. Al Williams, D-Midway, and organized by the Liberty County Chamber and Convention and Visitors Bureau. The focus will be to demonstrate the significance of Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield to Coastal Georgia and the state, as well as to show pride Georgians have for the the 3rd ID.
Leadership from Fort Stewart/Hunter will be at the House that morning, along with area elected officials. Williams and others are to recognize the contributions of the 3rd Infantry Division. Division commander Maj. Gen. Mike Murray will be available via video conference with a message from the soldiers deployed in Afghanistan.
“The 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield are incredibly honored and humbled to be recognized by the people of Georgia. As ‘Georgia’s Division’ we are thankful you’ve made this state our home for the last 75 years,” Brig. Gen. Jim Blackburn, the Task Force Marne commander, said.
The first event of its kind at the Capitol, Williams crafted the idea.
“We have a lot of support in the House for our division and we are all looking forward to the visit,” Williams said.
