BOULDER, Colo. - Authorities say a New York man wanted by the U.S. Army for desertion has been arrested in Boulder on an anonymous tip.

Police say they received a tip Saturday that 21-year-old Christopher Mauger, who had a nationwide felony warrant for desertion, was at an apartment in Boulder.

Officers say they went to the residence that afternoon and found Mauger, who initially tried to run away but then allowed himself to be handcuffed. He was cited with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and taken to the Boulder County Jail.

Army officials say Mauger is from Centerport, N.Y., and was undergoing basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., when he left without authorization Jan. 6.

He enlisted in the service in October and was assigned to E Company, First Battalion, 19th Infantry at Fort Benning.
