Defense attorneys for an Army sergeant facing capital murder charges are about to tell his side of the story in the 2008 slayings of a superior and a fellow U.S. soldier at a patrol base in Iraq.

Lawyers for Sgt. Joseph Bozicevich are scheduled to open their defense case Tuesday as his court-martial resumes at Fort Stewart.

It will be the first time anyone has laid out Bozicevich's version of the September 2008 slayings of his squad leader, Staff Sgt. Darris Dawson of Pensacola, Fla., and Sgt. Wesley Durbin of Dallas.

Members of their infantry unit have testified that Bozicevich opened fire on the two men after they critiqued him for poor performance.

Bozicevich could face the death penalty if the 12-member military jury convicts him.
