LOS ANGELES — Pvt. Daniel Brazelton, a soldier currently assigned to 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment at Fort Stewart, was apprehended Friday by the Daytona Beach Police Department at a hotel in Holly Hill, Fla., according to a news release from Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson. He was wanted for the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old Los Angeles County girl.
Brazelton prompted a nationwide manhunt when he escaped from military custody in Liberty County on Feb. 11 as he was being returned to jail following a medical appointment.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s Capt. Michael Parker said Brazelton was not armed and was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect is awaiting extradition to California.
He is being held in the Volusia County Jail in Florida and he will be extradited to Los Angeles County, Calif., from there.
Currently, there are no plans to bring Pvt. Brazelton back to Fort Stewart, according to Larson’s release.
Agents from the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division and the U.S. Marshals Service are continuing the investigation.
