To provide the most realistic training scenario possible, Fort Stewart officials informed the media around noon the installation would hold its active shooter exercise beginning at 12:50 p.m. today.
The exercise will be conducted at Fort Stewart's Soldier Service Center, building 253, at 55 Pony Soldier Avenue, post officials said.
"You will hear exercise radio traffic on your police scanners," Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson said. "There have been no indications of a changed or increased threat environment; this exercise will help ensure the continuing security of our soldiers, civilians and families. It is an important opportunity for the installation's Directorate of Emergency Services and other associated agencies to rehearse how they would respond to a situation such as an armed assailant. All safety precautions have been taken at the exercise site."
The Courier will have more on this story in Friday's paper.
