Ferriter moving to Fort Benning

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - A North Carolina-based general is leaving for a command in Georgia at another airborne Army post.

Officials at Fort Bragg are planning a farewell ceremony Thursday morning for Maj. Gen. Michael Ferriter. He is deputy commanding general for operations of the 18th Airborne Corps.

Ferriter has been assigned to Fort Benning, Ga., as commanding general for the U.S. Army Infantry Center at Fort Benning and commandant of the U.S. Army Infantry School.

Ferriter also was deputy commander for operations of the Multi-National Corps-Iraq, where he was in charge of the program to counter roadside bomb attacks.

His assignments include assistant commander of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. His combat tours include duty in Somalia and Iraq.
