The U.S. Army Reserve Command, Georgia National Guard and the USO of Georgia came together Dec. 19 to help spread a little holiday cheer among some of the country’s wounded heroes and those who care for them.
The three organizations hosted a special holiday luncheon for soldiers and staff members of the Warrior Transition Unit on Fort Stewart, complete with rows of sub sandwiches, chips and drinks.
Soldiers in the unit, which includes about 400 troops with complex physical and mental medical needs requiring more than six months of treatment or rehabilitation while awaiting Medical Evaluation Board results, were also treated to a few gifts from organizers and participated in a “WTU Idol” karaoke competition.
“This was a really good event for all the soldiers,” Sgt. Henry Hugley, a member of the WTU’s Bravo Company who is serving a second term with the unit, said about the luncheon. “It really lets us know that people haven’t forgotten about us.”
