Hinesville native Staff Sgt. Barrita Simmons, Air Force District of Washington NCO in charge of command decorations, has been recognized as an AFDW capital airman.
Simmons enlisted in the Air Force in April 2006. She joined the AFDW staff in September 2013. Her duty location is Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
At AFDW, she is part of a team that is a direct reporting unit to Headquarters Air Force, reporting to the chief of staff of the Air Force. The AFDW Manpower, Personnel and Services section, which Simmons is assigned to, supports approximately 40,000 Air Force military and civilian members at more than 500 locations in 108 countries.
“I’m a true personnelist at heart and love what I do,” she said. “My job is always to service customers in a demanding and forever-changing career field. Anytime that I can provide a positive service to a member that impacts their family and career is truly rewarding.”
She decided to join the Air Force because she comes from a long line of family members who have served in every branch and felt the Air Force would be the best fit for her.
Simmons’ parents are Barry and Beverly Drummond of Hinesville. She graduated from Liberty County High School in 2004.
