Hunter soldier killed in Afghanistan

A hunter soldier has been killed in Afghanistan, according to the Department of Defense.
The Pentagon announced Monday the death of Sgt. 1st Class Lance H. Vogeler, 29, of Frederick, Md., who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
He died Friday in Bastion, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered in Helmand, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield.

Rahn completes basic training

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Cameron C. Rahn graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Rahn is the son of Angel Smith of Midway and a 2017 graduate of Liberty County High School in Midway.
