Liberty, Long and Bryan county residents probably noticed the distinct sound of artillery firing at Fort Stewart this week.
If the booms seemed to be just a little bit louder than usual, it’s because the 3rdInfantry Division’s 1stBattalion, 76thField Artillery Regiment has been training on its newly acquired M777, 155mm howitzers. The 155mm rounds are larger and louder than the 105mm rounds local residents are used to hearing.
