Two graduate from basic training

Two soldiers with ties to this area have graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
They are U.S. Army Pvt. J.B. Barbary III and Pvt. Jake D. Mantz.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Barbary is the son of J.B. Barbary of Hinesville and Sharntrel Barbary of Savannah. He graduated in 2013 from Liberty County High School.

Mantz is the son of Kevin Mantz of Richfield, Wisconsin, and brother of Dalton Deluisa of Fort Stewart. He is a 2015 graduate of Germantown High School in Germantown, Wisconsin.
