Hinesville and Fort Stewart residents and employees are asked to be alert for increased rail operations on the installation and through the city for the next two weeks.

Trains with railcars will move between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. starting today and running through Aug. 17. Each train could have up to 65 railcars.

Roads on Fort Stewart affected by railcar movement are Veterans Parkway, Sixth Street and 15th Street. In Hinesville, highways 196 and 84, Veterans Parkway and Desert Storm Drive will be affected by railcar movement.

Fort Stewart and Hinesville police are coordinating with each other to ensure the public’s safety at rail crossings.

Approximately 360 railcars will move through Fort Stewart and Hinesville in support of the 2nd Infantry Division Brigade Combat Team’s rotation to the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Rail operation is just one of the power-projection capabilities of Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, the premier joint training facility on the East Coast, according to a Fort Stewart news release.
