Donna Street, 61, is walking from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Washington, D.C. with an inflatable saluting soldier strapped to her back. She said her message is one of gratitude for service members’ sacrifices and, she hopes, the country’s leaders will stop cutting the defense budget.
She stopped in Hinesville on Friday.
She’s also promoting her military memorabilia company, The Proud Protector. The Abingdon, Va., resident hopes to shake hands with one million people by the time she reaches the Capitol.
Courier publisher Mark Griffin was the 17,588th person to shake Street’s hand.
