GLENNVILLE — Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, is working to fulfill its mission to remember, honor and teach.
On Dec. 14, National Wreaths Across America Day, remembrance wreaths will be placed at the headstones of fallen veterans at more than 800 locations across the country and overseas, including the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
“The Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville opened in November 2007. Our efforts to honor all those buried here were begun by the Bonaventure Society, Children of the American Revolution, who obtained sponsors for wreaths for all graves from 2008 through 2011. In 2012, we were joined by the Glennville Faith Riders. They and their team leader, Donnie Epperson, have helped to ensure that sponsors were found to provide a wreath for each grave in 2012 and 2013. We hope people from all over South Georgia will join us on Saturday, Dec. 14, at noon at the cemetery for our wreath-laying,” cemetery location leader Elaine Lester said.
