Nighttime Christmas Parade shines throughout Hinesville

The streets of Hinesville were lined with spectators for Friday night’s annual illuminated Christmas Parade, courtesy of the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, with Santa Claus bringing up the rear on the procession.

Leigh Smiley was the parade grand marshal, and nearly 110 entries made up the parade, which was a nighttime event for the 26th year. The Mayors Award went to the Hispanic Heritage Club of Hinesville and Fort Stewart and the Chamber of Commerce’s first place award went to Clark’s Towing.

The superintendent’s first place went to First Preparatory Christian Academy.

Mike Reed Chevrolet’s float won second place in the Chamber of Commerce category, and the Hinesville Area Board of Realtors won second place for the Mayor’s Award. Savannah Technical College won second place in the Superintendent’s category.

Motorcyclist dies following Friday evening collision

A Long County motorcyclist was killed Friday night after colliding with another vehicle.
According to Hinesville Police Department Traffic Accident Investigator Michael Rameriz, the motorcyclist was traveling west bound on West Oglethorpe Highway shortly before 6 p.m. when a GMC Yukon was making a left turn from Mattie Street onto West Oglethorpe.
The motorcyclist struck the Yukon. Medical first responders were in the process of airlifting the motorcyclist when she succumbed to her injuries.
Rameriz said the accident is currently under investigation and declined to comment whether charges are pending.
