A male and a female were found dead around 1 p.m. Tuesday by two fishermen on a trail near Morgan Lake in Long County, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Mike McDaniel said. Officials are investigating what they believe to be a double homicide.

McDaniel said officials will not yet release the cause of death or the names of the two victims, but the female is believed to be in her late teens, and the male is believed to be in his early 20s.

“Right now, there is little that I can say because it is under investigation, but I can say that we do believe that it is a homicide,” McDaniel said.

Autopsies have been scheduled for today. After the procedures have been conducted, the GBI agent said, more information may be released.

Anyone with information about this case should call the Long County Sheriff’s Office at 545-2118 or the GBI at 912-729-6198.
