One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a head on collision Sunday night in Walthourville, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Lyle Thurmond.
Another person was injured in the accident.
Thurmond said a 2007 Chevy Impala driven by Rondrick Dixon,
37 of Liberty County was traveling westbound on E. B. Cooper Highway towards
Walthourville veered into the eastbound lane colliding with a 1999 Chevy
Silverado pickup truck driven by Robert Stauffer, 35, who was heading towards
Riceboro.
The impact split the Impala into two pieces, causing it to
rest onto the grassy shoulder of the road with the rear wheels facing upwards
and the front end landing right side up.
Dixon, who was wearing his seatbelt, was discovered laying on
the road with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead later after
emergency medical personnel tried to revive him. Stauffer was transported
by ambulance to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah with severe
injuries.
E B Cooper has reopened.
