The ninth annual GEICO-Ohio Wesleyan Collegiate Invitational Golf Tournament is scheduled March 13-15 at Hunter Golf Course.
The event, hosted by Ohio-Wesleyan University, provides an opportunity to play with top-rated university golfers slated for Professional Golf Association tour status. The tournament also allows players the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete with other universities.
“This is a great opportunity for our soldiers, golf course members and community members to play alongside a future PGA tour player,” Tommie McArthur, Hunter Golf Club manager, said.
The 18 universities competing include; Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah College of Art and Design, Creighton University, Savannah State University, Wright State University, Bryant College, Ferris State University, Saginaw Valley State University, West Chester University, North Carolina Wesleyan, Ohio Wesleyan, University of Findlay, Webster University, Faulkner University, Skidmore College, University of Virginia at Wise, University of South Carolina at Beaufort, and Warner Southern University.
McArthur said, “We are probably the only MWR golf course on an Army Installation that holds a national collegiate golf tournament.”
The college-am event on March 13 begins with lunch for the players, followed by an 18-hole tournament with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun. Play is open to all who would like to play with the collegiate players.
It features 18 teams of four members, and a number one collegiate player, who will play his ball separately, adding his score to the four-man team total.
The $65 per person entry fee includes green fees, golf car fees, tournament social, lunch, prizes, and driving range balls. The Friday college-amateur event gives golfers the opportunity to be paired with a top university player.
The competitors will play 36 holes on March 14 and 18 holes on March 15. There will be a 7:30 a.m. shotgun both days.
Spectators are invited at no cost.
