The day includes artillery drills, musket firings and soldier’s life activities to honor Independence Day. Free watermelon and lemonade will be served. $4.50-$7.50. Call 912-437-4770.

Fort Morris Historic
Site — Midway
Event include colonial games, contests of skill, colonial music, musket firings, cannon firings and activities. Prizes will be awarded to all participants.
Free admission sponsored by the city of Flemington, Friends of Fort Morris and Liberty County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Call 912-884-5999.

Friday, July 4
Laura S. Walker State Park — Waycross
Children can participate in three-legged races, sack races, football toss, watermelon football, relay races, egg carry, water slide and other games. There also will be a water slide at the swimming beach and a ranger-led hike on Big Creek Nature Trail at 9:30 a.m. Free watermelon and hot dogs will be available for children. $5 parking. Guided Kayak Paddle

Laura S. Walker State Park — Waycross, GA
There will be a ranger-led kayak paddle on the lake at Laura S. Walker. Limited space, pre-registration required by July 10. $25 plus $5 parking. Call 912-287-4900.

Adventure Camp for Kids

Crooked River State Park — St. Marys
Activities include kayaking, fishing, hiking, outdoor skills, environmental education and one entire day dedicated to photography. Space is limited, reservations required.
Kids age 10-13. $95 plus $5 parking. Call 912-882-5256.

Astronomy in
the Okefenokee
9 p.m. Saturday, July 26
Stephen C. Foster State Park — Fargo
Topics will focus on astronomy as well as observing the night sky through some high-powered telescopes. Stephen C. Foster State Park is one of the darkest places in the Southeast, due to a lack of light pollution, which makes it good for stargazing.
$3 plus $5 parking. Call 912-637-5274.

July 4th Celebration
on the Lake

Florence Marina State Park — Omaha
Activities include games, a watermelon-eating contest and educational boat tours on Lake Walter F. George. $5 plus $5 parking. Call 229-838-4706.

Indian Springs State Park — Flovilla
Campers will gather for s’mores, playing games and sing-along.

Ol’ Time Independence Day at Jarrell Plantation
10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday, July 4
Jarrell Plantation Historic Site — Juliette
Activities include a reading of the Declaration of Independence at noon, sack race, three-legged race, egg toss and other events. Watch blacksmiths, steam engineers, quilters and other skills of the past. $4.00-$6.50. Call 478-986-5172.
