THE GREAT OUTDOORS The bugle of a bull elk is one of the most unmistakable sounds in nature. Its a piercing scream that National Geographic has compared to the demonic shrieks of the Ringwraiths from "The Lord of the Rings." The sound can actually travel for miles.

So imagine how intense it would be to sit directly in front of a large elk as it bugles for a mate. A video on YouTube captured the action as a hyper-focused bull nearly walked right into a hunter.

The hunter in the video was a man named Jay Scott. According to the bio on his website, he has been a professional guide for many years and has helped multiple clients shoot record elk.

But this encounter was different. As Scott used a cow call, a large bull made its way directly toward him. Scott filmed the action as the elk got closer and closer.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Scott began uttering, Woah, woah, woah, woah. Hearing the mans voice, the elk appeared shocked by Scotts presence. But the animal didnt immediately retreat. So the remarkably calm hunter told the elk to Go on.

At that point, the bull turned and sauntered off into the trees. After the animal was gone, Scott turned the camera on himself and stated the obvious: He was too close.

The video first appeared on Scotts Facebook page, where it generated a flurry of comments from his fans. True to Scotts understated style, there was no fanfare when he posted the video. The caption simply read: The cow calls almost caused Jay Scott to get stepped on.
