Peacock Canal bridge over Lewis Frasier Road set to close July 28
Peacock Canal bridge over Lewis Frasier Road set to close July 28

Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) continues to reduce the number of deficient county bridges with the upcoming replacement of the Peacock Creek bridge, which is scheduled to close July 28.

The contractor is permitted to close Lewis Frasier Road/County Road (CR) 171 for 150 days. The contractor will prepare and maintain the detour around the closure, which uses Lewis Frasier Road, Highway 84 and Highway 17 in Liberty County. Motorists can access residences in the area up to the work zone.

This project will replace the current weight restricted bridge about five miles northwest of Riceboro, which was built in 1971.

The majority of bridges in Georgia are locally owned. Georgia DOT’s Low Impact Bridge Program and Local Bridge Replacement Program helps local governments replace deficient bridges. For more information on those programs, go to https://www.dot.ga.gov/IS/BridgePrograms.

As always, for information about travel conditions on Georgia’s interstates and state routes, call 511 before getting on the road. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, including traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays. Callers can transfer to operators to request assistance or report incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
