Crime scene tape

A nearly two hour standoff ended peacefully Saturday in Long County.

According to Liberty County Sheriff's Office Special Reaction Team  Commander, James Ashdown, the man, who has not been identified, fired several gunshots inside his residence on Mary Court shortly before 9 pm.

Ashdown said the man was holding his spouse hostage until officers were able to get her out of the safely.  Long County Sheriff, Craig Nobles said the man had made threatening remarks during the standoff and, at one point, fired shots inside his home.

Later the man allegedly stood on his porch brandishing a weapon during the standoff.

Police shut down traffic on Rye Patch Road from Wilkinson Road NE to Persimmon Blvd NE.

Neighboring residents, who lived in the area, had to wait until the standoff came to an end. The standoff ended when the man placed his weapon inside his vehicle and gave himself up to authorities who had the residence surrounded.  Ashdown said the man was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center In Hinesville for observation.

The Special Response Teams from Liberty, Long and McIntosh County all responded to the scene.
