UPDATE: A downed power line Thursday tied up traffic on Highway 84 and General Screven. Sources told the Courier that a transformer blew, also resulting in a lock down of Button Gwinnett Elementary School. Georgia Power crews repaired the downed power line relatively quickly.

According to an online press release from the city of Hinesville: On Aug. 22 at 2:26 p.m., Hinesville Police Department officers were dispatched to what was thought to be a gunshot heard near Button Gwinnett Elementary. Officers quickly responded and canvassed the area. It was determined that the noise heard was a malfunctioning transformer. No threats to the safety of the students were found.
