Accidents causes injuries in county

A SUV struck a man who was riding his bicycle across Highway 196 East at 2:43 p.m. Monday.
The injured man, whose name has not yet been released, was flown by Life Star to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The man’s injuries were not known as of press time.
The driver of the 2004 GMC Envoy, Marcus Haywood, 25, of Savannah, was allegedly passing on a double-yellow line when the man on the bike was crossing the road, according to witnesses.
The Georgia State Patrol’s specialized collision reconstruction team (SCRT 4) out of Reidsville is assisting with the accident investigation, said Sgt. Thornell King, GSP commander.

Five injured in SUV rollover
Five people were injured when a 1994 Isuzu SUV overturned at 5:06 p.m. Dec. 29 on Highway 84 near Highway 196 East in Liberty County. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
The driver told the Georgia State Patrol he was traveling east on Highway 84 in the turn lane when another vehicle tried to merge into his path. He made an aggressive move to avoid the vehicle and lost control, according to the GSP unofficial report. The SUV traveled about 210 feet and came to rest on its roof in the westbound lane facing east, GSP staff said.
The driver had five passengers in the vehicle. Five of the people in the SUV were injured. It is not known the extent of the injuries or where they may have been transported for treatment.
Names of the driver and passengers have not yet been released.
