An off-duty Hinesville police officer was injured Friday morning when he was hit by a vehicle driven by an alleged drunk driver.
Hinesville Traffic Accident Investigator Lt. Bill Kirkendall said Officer Joshua Heath, who had finished his shift, was riding a motorcycle home about 2 a.m. At the intersection of Gen. Screven Way and Hendry Street in Hinesville where he was struck by a car making a left turn.
The female driver, who has not been identified yet, fled the scene and was later found and arrested on Fort Stewart. She is reportedly active duty.
Heath was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah and treated for a fractured ankle and wrist and released.
The woman initially has been charged with a DUI and driving without insurance.
