Brush fire burns 200-300 acres in Long County
Ludowici fire

A controlled burn in Long County got out of control Saturday afternoon, damaging an estimated 200 to 300 acres.

Long County/Ludowici Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chief Chris Moss said the fire, which started out as a controlled burn on private property, jumped a fire break and rapidly spread shortly before 1 p.m.

Moss said the owner of the property was attempting to burn 10 acres.

Units from Liberty and Wayne counties and the Georgia Forestry Commission spent a much of the afternoon keeping the fire contained as well as protecting structures in the area.

The owner of the property was issued a permit to burn the 10 acres, and no further action will be pursued, Moss said.

The fire was extinguished.
