Eight people were left without a home Wednesday morning after a fire burned a wooden duplex on the 400 block of Shephard Drive in Allenhurst.
Nobody was injured.

The fire began around 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to Walthourvlle Volunteer Fire and Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Burns. A resident of one of the duplexes noticed smoke and fire and got his children and wife out of the building. He also notified his neighbor and they also were able to get safely leave the house.

Burns said when firefighters arrived the duplex was fully engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no smoke detectors in the residences.
