A former Fort Stewart soldier who escaped with a second inmate from the Tattnall County Jail on Jan. 17 was arrested Saturday in Texas.

Long County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Tom Sollosi said that Raymond Smith, 24, was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Office, East Texas Fugitive Task Force and local authorities in Corsicana, Texas. Smith, who escaped last month with Chad Dasher, originally was arrested by the LCSO on Sept. 17, 2012, for on charges of child molestation, statutory rape and enticing a child for indecent purposes. Sollosi said he now will face charges of escape and interference with government property.  An extradition hearing is scheduled in Navarro County, Texas, after which Smith will be returned to Georgia.

Dasher still is on the loose. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call the LCSO at 545-2118.
