A second person has died from injuries sustained Feb. 5 in a car crash in the intersection of Bacon and Fleming roads in Hinesville.
Patrick Burkhalter, a native of Glennville, died Saturday in Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Burkhalter was a director of First Citizens Bank and owned and operated Burkhalter’s Galaxy of Glennville. He sustained serious head injuries when the 2008 Nissan Altima in which he was riding collided with another vehicle. He was flown to Memorial LifeStar, where he was initially listed in critical condition.
Royce Anderson, a prominent Glennville businessman, was also killed in that accident.
According to Hinesville Police traffic investigators Lt. Max McLendon and Cpl. Scott Hensler, Anderson and Burkhalter were apparently not wearing seatbelts.
“The impact, from what we could determine, caused Anderson’s death,” McLendon said.
Anderson was pronounced dead at Liberty Regional Medical Center.
Jeanie Anderson, an executive with First Citizens Bank in Glennville, was driving the Nissan.
The accident happened around 1:23 p.m. on Feb. 5 when Marion Adams, 60, was driving south on Bacon. Adams tried to turn left at the intersection. She also sustained injuries and was taken to Winn Army Hospital for a broken ankle.
McLendon said the accident is still under investigation. The deaths are the first accident fatalities in Hinesville for 2008.
