A Tampa, Fla., man was killed Wednesday night in a single-vehicle accident according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper William Bowman.
The accident occured shortly after 11 p.m. at the intersection of East Oglethorpe Highway and Brights Lake Road just outside of Flemington.
Bowman said the driver from Hinesville, was traveling East at
a high rate of speed and apparently lost con-trol of his 2006 Mazda Miata. According to Bowman, the unidentified
man drove into a ditch, sending the vehicle airborne until it struck a tree. The vehicle flipped over two times and hit a culvert, ejecting the 23-year-old passenger.
Bowman said LifeStar transported both men to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where the passenger was pronounced dead. The driver is listed in critical condition.
No charges have been filed and the accident is under investigation.
The passenger’s next of kin have not been notified
