A Florida teen was arrested Thursday night in Liberty County in connection with a school bus shooting that left two teens injured.
Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christina Tuten said the arrest occurred around 9 p.m. in Walthourville without incident.
Detectives were initially unsuccessful in locating the suspect. Further information from Jacksonville, Florida, authorities Thursday night led authorities to the suspect's whereabouts. Surveillance was set up at Glennbrook Mobile Home Park on Dunlevie Road in Allenhurst.
Tuten said the teen, identified as Edgar Robles, 16, was seen entering a vehicle that was allowed to leave the residence. A traffic stop was initiated, and Robles was arrested without incident, Tuten said.
Robles was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville and treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his left thigh that occurred prior to his arrest, Tuten said. After he was treated, he was taken to the Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Robles was planning to fight a teen on a school bus when it stopped at the corner of 118th Street and Ortega Farms Boulevard. The bus driver noticed something was wrong and kept driving.
That's when, officers said, Robles fired five shots into the bus. Shakayla Singleton and Ayana Sherman, both 16, were hit. Singleton was shot through both cheeks and was released from the hospital last week. Sherman was shot in the back of the head and released from the hospital this week.
