A large amount of stolen equipment has been recovered in Liberty County after a Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe into a possible heavy-equipment theft ring.

GBI Special Agent in Charge Cathy Sapp said the agency cannot currently place a dollar amount on the equipment, which ranges from construction equipment to lawnmowers.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate the possible theft ring June 1.

The probe has recovered equipment, including that used for construction and zero-turn mowers.

Several arrests are expected as a result of this investigation, Sapp said in a news release Monday.

During this first investigation, another equipment theft was discovered. A search warrant was served Thursday at a home in the 900 block of Peter King Road in Riceboro. The search led to the recovery of 203 push mowers. An abandoned shipping container was later located.

An arrest warrant is pending for this investigation, Sapp said.

The GBI is asking anyone with information to call 912-871-1121 or the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 912-876-4555.
