An armed robber struck a Hinesville business Friday night, making it the forth area business to be targeted by a gunman in a two-week period.

According to an employee at the Subway sandwich shop at the intersection of E.G. Miles Parkway and Airport Road, a man entered the store shortly after 8 p.m., covering the lower portion of his face as he coughed.

“The guy came in, pulled his shirt over his face, ordered a sub. When I got to the cash register, he pulled a revolver out and told me to give him all the money in the cash register,” the employee said.

During the holdup, the worker said, the only thought that crossed his mind was, “Don’t shoot me.”

Another employee reportedly was told by the gunman to stay put and not move.

Surveillance video shows the gunman leaning on the counter as the first employee made a sandwich. Authorities describe the suspect as a light-skinned black male, about 6 feet tall with a thin build and short, curly hair. He was wearing a blue shirt.

Hinesville Police Department Detective Tracy Howard said there appears to be similarities between this incident and three other robberies that have occurred in the area. A man brandishing a silver revolver reportedly held up Flash Foods on East Oglethorpe Highway on Dec. 17, the Yogurt Shop on E.G. Miles Parkway on Dec. 21 and Clyde’s on Dunlevie Road in Walthourville on Dec 23.

Although the silver revolver reportedly has been spotted each time, Howard said he is reluctant at this point to tie the robberies to the same person.
