LUDOWICI — A Long State Prison inmate, who escaped Tuesday, is back behind bars.
Jesse James Holliday, 35, was assigned to a work detail at a recycling center in Jesup on Tuesday. That afternoon the prisoner fled, and a search by area law enforcement began.
According to Wayne County Sheriff John Carter, on Wednesday a witness saw a suspicious looking man in a wood line near Highway 301 and called 911.
Carter said at this point, the sheriff’s department surrounded the area, and Department of Corrections officers, using dog-tracking teams, located Holliday.
Carter said that around
4 p.m. Wednesday dogs located the prisoner, and
he was taken back into custody without resistance. Carter said the inmate had gotten some clothes so was not wearing his prison uniform, when he was apprehended.
Holliday is an inmate at the Long State Prison, serving a three year sentence for first degree forgery. The prisoner had been incarcerated since Aug. 21.
While his earlier crime had not been considered violent, Long County Sheriff Cecil Nobles said Holliday should be considered violent while he was on the lam.
