Ludowici Police Department Interim Chief Diannia Duncan confirmed that Patrol Officer Raymond Govero was arrested Friday and charged with one count of battery family violence, which is a misdemeanor, and four felony counts of influencing a witness.
According to a report provided by Duncan, the charges stem from an alleged Jan. 1 altercation that occurred between Govero and his teenage daughter at the officer’s Ludowici home. Duncan could not provide the daughter’s name because she is a minor. Govero’s wife, Sonya, also was arrested Friday and charged with one count of battery family violence and one count of influencing a witness, the report said.
Because the case is under investigation, Duncan could not provide any additional information on the incident. The warrants for Govero and his wife were filed through the LPD.
Govero, who has been with the LPD for approximately two years, and his wife went before Long County Probate/Magistrate Judge Marie Middleton on Friday and both were released on their own recognizance.
Duncan said that Govero currently is suspended from the LPD pending the outcome of the charges.
