Law-enforcement officials are investigating the shooting death of Dennis Pavao, 43.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. James Snider said officers were dispatched shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday to the Live Oak Mobile Home Park in the 400 block of Live Oak Church Road in western Liberty County concerning the report of a gunshot victim.

Snider said the victim answered a knock on the door of his mobile home at 11:13 p.m. The person knocking tried to force his way inside and pulled a gun.

A physical altercation ensued, Snider said, and the struggle “went into the yard as they’re wrestling around, the gun was fired, and it struck the tenant and he was later deceased.”

Snider said Pavao was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The detective added that the attack appeared to target Pavao.

Snider asked anyone with information on the case to call 911 or 912-876-4555 and ask for him or Detective Tracy Jennings.
