Eric Clancy, 19, was shot and wounded during an alleged armed robbery outside his home shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday on John Bacon Road, according to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective Julie Hibbler.

According to Hibbler, Clancy said he’d gone out to retrieve an item from his vehicle when he reportedly was approached by perpetrators, one of whom brandished a handgun. As the gunman allegedly pointed the weapon at Clancy, it went off, grazing the teen’s head.

The perpetrators then reportedly forced Clancy into the home, where they reportedly took a flat-screen TV and an undetermined amount of cash.

There were other residents in the home at the time, but no one else was injured, Hibbler said.

Clancy was taken by ambulance to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where he was treated and released later in the day.

Hibbler is asking anyone in the community with information on the reported robbery to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 368-7474 or dial 911.
