A Saturday morning accident in Hinesville injured a motorcycle passenger, according to Hinesville Traffic Accident Investigator Jassen Garrett.
The accident occurred at 11:30 a.m. on East Oglethorpe Highway and Brantley Drive, where a red Ford Taurus stalled in the westbound lane of East Oglethorpe Highway. The vehicle was partially in the road, and a gray Kia Sorrento traveling west stopped to avoid hitting the Taurus. A white Pontiac also traveling west struck the rear of the Kia, glanced off of it and continued into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lane. The Pontiac struck a man and woman on a motorcycle and they were ejected from the bike.
Long County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Walt Pelton said the couple, who were riding a Harley Davidson, had been taking part in a poker run for the 200 Club, which provides funds to the families of fallen law-enforcement officers.
Garrett said the male motorcyclist was walking around the accident scene. The woman was taken by helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. Her condition is unknown.
The accident caused a major traffic jam as officers closed down Oglethorpe Highway to conduct an investigation.
