One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident just after 8 a.m. Tuesday on Ga. Highway 144, according to GSP Trooper Thornell King. The wreck happened near the sniper range on Fort Stewart, according to Fort Stewart Public Affairs Officer Kevin Larson. Because no military personnel were involved, the accident investigation was turned over to the Georgia State Patrol.

King said that Jane Mobley, 41, of Glennville, was driving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix east on Ga. Highway 144 when she came around a curve and crossed into the path of an oncoming two-axle 1997 Freightliner truck driven by Kenneth Wilson of Alma, Ga.

The Pontiac sideswiped the truck, traveled a short distance and landed in a ditch. Mobley was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, King said. Wilson was not injured.

Fog was a contributing factor to the accident, which occurred at mile marker one on Highway 144, the GSP trooper said. Mobley was not wearing a seat belt, but King said that likely was not a factor in her death, which reportedly was caused by trauma.

First responders received a call and were dispatched to the scene at 8:18 a.m.
