Authorities released the identities Thursday of a male and a female who were found dead around 1 p.m. Tuesday by two fishermen in Long County. According to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Tiffany Renee York, 17, and Michael Roark, 20, were found slain in a wooded area off Morgan Lake Road.

GBI Special Agent Mike McDaniel said Roark recently had been released from the military.

Officials are investigating what they say is a double homicide; however, the causes of death have not yet been released, McDaniel said. Autopsies were performed Wednesday.

“Right now, there is little that I can say because it is under investigation, but I can say that we do believe that it is a homicide,” McDaniel said. “Any time you have a homicide where people have been slain and there’s somebody out there who is capable of taking a life, yes, there is cause for the public to be concerned and that is why we’re asking for the public’s help in taking this person off the street.”

The two victims were traveling in a 2006 black Nissan Altima that had a Georgia tag and no wheel covers, according to the news release.

Anyone who saw the vehicle in the Long County area on Monday or Tuesday or has information about this case should call the Long County Sheriff’s Office at 545-2118 or the GBI at 912-729-6198.
