The Hinesville Police Department, in conjunction with the Liberty County Health Department, has set Hinesville Safe Kids Day for Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Bradwell Park.
The day is for the whole county, is free and open to the public. The park is next to the Liberty County Courthouse.
Efforts have been made to bring in as many co-sponsors, which include Liberty County Family Connection, Prevent Child Abuse Liberty, The Heritage Bank, the Department of Family and Children Services, GeoVista Credit Union, Church's Chicken, Sanitary Plumbing, Kiwanis and Elan Technology.
May is national Safe Kids Month with efforts made throughout the country to promote accident and injury prevention to children. Accidental injuries are the leading killer of children. Every year more than 1 million children die, and many more are injured, by accidents that could have been prevented.
During the event local agencies will assist parents and children with fingerprinting, bicycle safety/registration, Neighborhood Watch, gunlock and gun safety, Internet predator safety and other safety issues.
"It is the intention of this group to provide an outlet for local agencies to advertise community events, which may be of interest to parents and children. There will also be fun games, face painting, a dunking booth and other activities for children, free of charge," Crime Prevention Officer John Williams said.
