Ludowici resident Meckel Henry had a choice — jail time or get the message out that he is a thief. Henry chose to let everyone know the latter, according to Sgt. Sal Genualdi of the Ludowici Police Department. After being found guilty of shoplifting at two local convenience stores in Ludowici, Henry had to face Judge Larry Fowler in city court. Fowler gave the convicted shoplifter the choice of serving one week in jail, or wearing a sign around his neck that read, “I am a convicted thief.” Henry was sentenced April 24 and fulfilled his eight-hour obligation May 5 in front of one of the stores where he had committed one of the offenses.
