Police in Alabama arrested Travis Williams, 28, for his reported involvement in the death of his 7-month-old dauther, Syikiria Williams, in Hinesville.
He was apprehended Thursday without incident by officials of the Opelika Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff's Department.
According to HPD Det. Doug Snider, Williams' extradition is pending a hearing. He will face a murder charge when returned, Snider said. Williams has an outstanding warrant for child support in Alabama and is being processed on those charges.
Williams became a suspect when, according to Snider, autopsy reports concluded the infant's death was caused by head trauma probably from abuse.
Investigators were called when DFACS reported the girl had been taken to Memorial Health University Hospital in Savannah showing signs of injuries that appeared suspicious on Sept. 27.
The infant was taken off life support when two separate tests, performed 24 hours apart, revealed the child had no brain functions.
According to chief of HPD Detectives, Maj. Cribbs, Williams left this area to stay with relatives in Alabama.
