Maurice Newsome, 21, the boyfriend of Savannah Smith, now faces murder charges in her death. Smith’s body was found last month in Gum Branch.
Hinesville Police Det. Doug Snider said Newsome will face charges for felony murder, concealing a death and possession of a fire arm during the commission of certain crimes. He was charged earlier with aggravated assault against Smith for domestic violence.
Chief of Detectives Maj. Thomas Cribbs said. Smith died from a single gunshot wound. He would not provide additional details.
Newsome appeared before Magistrate Trey Aspinwall on Monday at the Liberty County Regional Jail in Hinesville. He was denied bond during the brief hearing.
