Smoke in the Hinesville area Thursday morning was coming from controlled burns associated with land clearing just southeast of town, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission’s Midway office.
Details were not available but an office spokesman said permits had been issued and the office was aware of the fire.
There is increased emergency personnel activity around town and on Fort Stewart, but it is for a security exercise on post.
