Soldier hurt in wreck, airlifted to Savannah

A Fort Stewart soldier was injured this afternoon in three-vehicle accident on West Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville.

Hinesville Police Department Traffic Accident Investigator Cpl. Les Patton said the vehicles were travelin east when the vehicle driven by the soldier was struck from behind by a tractor trailer, sending the soldier's vehicle forward. It struck a pickup truck, which contained several peoplw. It ended up in the west bound lane in a grassy area.

Patton said there was no evidence of braking by the truck prior to impact. The truck was driven by Michael Bullard of Black Shear, Ga.

The soldier was flown by medical air evac to Memorial Health in Savannah.

The driver Rodney McCollugh, 29 of Pooler and 2 passengers in the pickup truck were transported to to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville complaining of pain.

The accident occurred in front of the Super Walmart Center shortly after4:30 pm and slowed traffic throughout Hinesville.

Bill Kirkendall said changes are pending, the accident is under investigation.
