A bicyclist was struck by an SUV and injured shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Leroy Coffer Highway and Freedman Grove Road.

The cyclist was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah by ambulance.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Lyle Thurmond said the cyclist, identified as Patrick Boyle, 45, of Midway, was riding in the eastbound shoulder of Leroy Coffer. As Boyle was crossing the intersection with Freedman Grove, a female driver was crossing the highway from Pate Rodgers Road when the passenger front bumper of her 2013 Ford Edge made contact with him, throwing him off the bicycle, Thurmond said.

Thurmond said Boyle was transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, where he is listed in stable condition and had suffered a fractured shoulder.

The accident is currently under investigation.
