An altercation over a girl may have led to the shooting of a teenager Tuesday night in Hinesville.
A 17-year-old was wounded when gunfire erupted in the 900 block of Green Briar Trail shortly before 6 p.m. Hinesville Police Det. Susie Jackson said the teenager was shot once below the left side of his rib cage and the bullet exited through his back.
The victim may have been shot during an altercation over a girl, Jackson said. “Were looking into this at this time. We were told this may have been the cause of the shooting,” she said.
After he was shot, the teen may have run from Green Briar Trail to his home in the 200 block of Pointe South Drive about a 100 yards from where multiple shell casing were found, according to the detect-
ive.
When patrolmen Mike Gosseck and Donnie Nunley arrived, they found the teenager kneeling in his driveway, gasping for air. Jackson said the victim was responsive and talked to the officers. He was later flown by LifeStar to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah and reportedly is in stable condition.
The teen has not been identified. Jackson said the shooting is under investigation but offered no details about a suspect.
