A tornado warning was issued for Liberty and Long counties about 3:30 and is to be in effect until 4:15.

Warnings normally mean a funnel has been spotted. In this case, the National Weather Service’s Charleston office said meteorologists detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado in the Tibet community, traveling northeast at 55 mph.

Residents in the area, including those in Walthourville, Allenhurst, Hinesville and Midway were encouraged to seek shelter.

A tornado watch is to remain in effect in our area until 8 p.m.
