Shoppers at Wal-Mart got more than they bargained for Saturday afternoon as smoke filled the sky behind the store and flames shot nearly 100 feet in the air.

According to Hinesville Fire Capt. Andy Fowler, the fire department received calls from dispatch around 3:40 p.m. By 4, four engines from the Hinesville Fire Department were on scene trying to extinguish the fire in what appeared to be a pile of papers bailed up for recycling and stacked pallets by the dumpsters.

An apartment building adjacent to the fire was evacuated and sustained exterior heat damage as the fire melted the vinyl siding. The store remained open for business and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
